As you may have already been informed, on May 1, 2009 more than 170 of those participating in the May Day rally at Laleh Park in Tehran were arrested. More than 100 of the detainees are still in custody. They have been denied meeting with their families, and there is no accurate information about their whereabouts. The families of the detainees gather in front of the court in Tehran everyday for information about their loved ones. However, so far they have not received any answers.
A large-scale movement is forming against these arrests. 29 unions and worker organisations from different cities in Iran have launched a campaign for the release of the May Day detainees. The International Labour Solidarity Committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran calls on all humanitarian organisations around the world to join this campaign and support its demands:
